Advice to Sellers, Landlords and Purchasers

Article Date :19 Jul 2006

Comments from Arnold Nel, Chaiman IEA Pietermaritzburg & Interior

Property sellers, landlords and purchasers are often spoiled for choice when selecting estate agents to sell, rent out their properties or to buy, says Arnold Nel the chairman of the Institute of Estate Agents Pietermaritzburg & Interior region. For that reason, he believes it is imperative that sellers, landlords and purchasers make use of the new facility made available by the Estate Agency Affairs Board in that they can now check the registration status of any particular estate agent by logging onto the EAAB website www.eaab.org.za.

The website displays the whether the estate agent and estate agency is registered with the EAAB and lists those estate agency firms who have submitted their annual audit report and includes those who have not.

Further to this web site the EAAB has also included useful information iro the estate agents examination confirmations and examination results.

Furthermore Nel believes that the public should also choose estate agents who are members of the Institute of Estate Agents, which is the industry's professional body. " As a professional Institute," says Nel " we maintain the highest possible standards of training and ethical conduct, which go far beyond the minimum standards enforced by the industry's regulator and other similar estate agency organisations. We keep our members up to date with the ever increasing legal and technical demands which are placed on them, and we have a strict code of ethical practice to which our members must adhere to. All this is designed to offer as much protection as possible to the public."
