News from the annual AGM
Pam Golding Properties CE Dr Andrew Golding has been named as national president-elect of the Institute of Estate Agents (IEASA).
Dr Willie Marais was re-elected as national president at the recent AGM of IEASA, but said he might not be available for the full two-year term due to time constraints.
Golding was appointed earlier this year as IEASA vice president in charge of international affiliations, and has made a commitment to pursue inclusivity and comprehensive representation and assist the real estate industry to tackle the many critical issues it faces.
“Today more than ever – given the number of key issues faced by the industry, not the least of which is that of transformation – it is vital that the institute is inclusively representative of estate agents throughout the real estate sector,” he says.
“Another prime objective is that through IEASA, all estate agents are motivated to uphold the highest possible professional standards in an increasingly demanding career which is constantly in the public spotlight. The new training qualifications, which provide a credible forum for qualified agents to be recognised for their knowledge and expertise, also provide an ideal opportunity for the industry to achieve increased consumer confidence – particularly in this current economic environment when both buyers and sellers need to be able to depend on sound advice."
Ken Ralph and Kerry Warburg were confirmed at the AGM as the other two vice-presidents and the other directors appointed to the national board of IEASA include Neville McIntyre of Jigsaw Holdings, Stuart Manning of Seeff, Sindile Faku, Annah Mothudi, Tjaart van der Walt of RealNet, Ivan Neethling (treasurer) of Startprop, Jaco de Lange of Prime Properties, Rothea Olivier, and Des Nish of Des-Kay Properties. Bill Rawson, as immediate past president, completes the full board contingent of 14 members.
Pat Acutt, Meshack Khoza, Terry Petersen and Ronel Heyns were appointed as alternate directors and will serve on the board when the elected directors are not available to attend, thereby ensuring 100% attendance at board meetings.
Marais says he is delighted with the composition of the new board. “It is well-balanced and encompasses a wealth of knowledge and experience, and I would like to thank them in advance for the sacrifices they are going to make on behalf of our profession.”
Meanwhile, he says, the AGM was highly productive, with several far-reaching decisions being taken. On the cards as a result are:
*The creation of a new advisory council to further BBBEE in the real estate industry; *The launch of six new IEASA regions; *The launch of IEASA’s own magazine; *The development of a sustainable conference model; *The development of an interactive national and regional website; *The launch of a DVD/ webcam training and communications facility; and *The launch of a benefit card for IEASA members.
