Institute shocked at death of its Vice-President

Article Date :7 Dec 2005

Tragic loss to industry.

Lynette Malan, vice-president of the Institute of Estate Agents, has been killed in a vehicle accident in Gauteng. IEA president Bill Rawson says the institute is shocked and saddened at the news, and its thoughts and prayers are with Ms Malan's family and loved ones at this time. Ms Malan was an IEA member for thirty-five years, a director for the past sixteen, and had been vice-president since 2004. According to Rawson, she was one of the industry body's most active, popular, and respected members.

"Lynette was a stalwart member of our Northern Region," says Rawson, "serving northern Gauteng and southern Limpopo. She served on the regional board for many years, and only last month she completed a successful term as its chairman. She was a very active director, who made a powerful contribution to the success of that region. She was also a wonderful, caring person, and it was a privilege and a pleasure to work with her on the national board."

Ms Malan was highly regarded as a trainer. One of her initiatives was training previously disadvantaged estate agents to be trainers, so as to promote transformation in the industry. "She was always a lady, quiet and unruffled," an industry colleague said of her. "We will miss her."
