International News and Events feature on IEASA website
The Institute of Estate Agents of South Africa (IEASA) has launched an online reference source called "International News and Events" on its website (www.ieasa.org.za). IEASA president Bill Rawson says the website features details of forthcoming property expos and events in Dubai, Bulgaria, Spain, and Thailand, as well as access to Russian and British publications where South African estate agents can advertise, and links to the websites of property associations and regulating authorities in countries around the world.
Rawson says that the link to the website of the International Consortium of Real Estate Associations (ICREA), which contains detailed information about the property markets, property laws and taxes, and the buying, selling and letting of properties in a range of countries, gives a good introduction to the property scenes in those countries.
"Overseas property investment has become a big thing worldwide," says Rawson. "South Africa is very much part of that market, and our agents and developers and financiers need access to relevant information. This international addition to our existing website, which is the brainchild of our national co-ordinator, Kate Colsell, is part of our ongoing commitment to provide our members and our industry with the resources which they need."
Earlier this year, the IEASA was appointed as the South African marketer for the annual SIMA property congress and expo in Spain. Ms Colsell and IEASA director Arnold Nel attended SIMA, and Nel gave a presentation on property investment opportunities in South Africa. "The contacts we made at SIMA," says Ms Colsell, "highlighted a need for more global information, hence the addition to our website."
The IEASA has been affiliated with the National Association of Realtors in the USA since the 1980s, and will be sending a delegation to the NAR's annual convention in November. The NAR convention has become an important event on the South African property calendar in recent years, and all the major banks now attend and sponsor estate agents to go with them.
