Newly elected Estate Agency Affairs Board as at July 2003 ESTATE AGENCY INDUSTRY Mr Geoffrey Fatasi Mashigo Executive Director of Mashigo Properties Mr Mashigo began his career as a residential property estate agent in 1980 and in 1982 registered his own estate agency company. He was the national president of the Institute of Estate Agents and currently serves as one of its directors. He is also a director in a joint venture estate agency company and chairman of a liquidation company. He holds a trustee position for the Property Association Professional Club. Miss Jill Corfield Executive Director of Corfield School of Real Estate Ms Jill Corfield holds several qualifications in business broking, advanced property practice and marketing. She runs her own real estate training and consulting company. She is the current chairperson of the Institute of Realtors of South Africa as well as a committee and EXCO member of the Institute of Estate Agents. As a trainer she has occupied several lectureship positions at the Natal Technikon and Varsity College. Ms Valencia Mazibuko Estate Agent for Continental Homes Ms Mazibuko holds a Bachelor of Art in Nursing Science and a certificate in basic management and management practice from the Universities of Fort Hare and Rhodes. She is also a qualified Estate Agent employed by Continental Homes as a marketer of residential, business and commercial properties. As a member of the Eastern Cape Consumer Tribunal, she is actively involved in the protection of consumers against unfair business practices. Ms Mazibuko previously served as a member of the Estate Agents Affairs Board for the 1996-1999 period. Ms Anne Fry Branch Manager of Pam Golding Properties Ms Fry holds a Diploma in advanced property practice from the Institute of Estate Agents. She is branch manager of Pam Golding Properties and has been named businesswoman of the year and SEEFF manager of the year. Prior to working for Pam Golding Properties she ran her own real estate company for four years. She serves as a board member of the Property Chamber Service SETA and the Institute of Estate Agents. Ms Mandisa Sinuka Executive Director of Mandisa Estate Agency Ms Sinuka holds a Bachelor of Art Degree and a Bachelor of Education from the Universities of Fort Hare and Cape Town. She is a licensed estate agent and runs her own Estate Agency Company. Her community involvement includes a deputy chairperson position for the African National Congress Women’s League and membership of several community projects. CIVIL SOCIETY CATEGORY Ms Lilibeth Moolman Chairperson of the National Consumer Union Ms Moolman is a well-known consumer activist who as the Chairperson of the National Consumer Union has championed the rights of consumers for a long time. She serves on a range of boards where she represents the interests of consumers. These, amongst others, include the Advertising Standards Authority, Council of the Ombudsman for Short Term Insurance, Child Nutrition Expert Panel, Food Advisory Consumer Services and the Wheat Forum. She is also the editor of “The Self Help Approach To Consumer Problems”. Ms Zena Poggenpoel Legal Manager at the Housing Consumer Protection Trust Ms Poggenpoel holds an LLB degree from the University of the Western Cape specialising in Mercantile and Private Law. She also holds two degrees from the School for Legal Practice from the University of Cape Town. Ms Poggenpoel is currently a legal manager at the Housing Consumer Protection Trust, an NGO that specializes in the provision of preemptive advice and problem solving services to low income housing consumers. She also serves as an alternate board member of the Micro Finance Regulatory Council. PROPERTY MANAGEMENT, DEVELOPERS, FINANCE AND OTHER INSTITUTIONS Mr Ismael Mohamed Partner in an Accounting Firm Mr Mohamed is a qualified Commercial and Financial Accountant who holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from the University of South Africa. He also holds a certificate of proficiency for short term insurance and life marketing. Mr Mohamed is presently an equal partner in a firm of accountants. He is also an Executive member of the Dundee Metro Council. Mr Linda Joseph Nyembe Executive Chairman of Nu Way Housing Developments (Pty) Ltd Mr Nyembe holds several certificates in finance and administration for the small business, income tax, marketing management and estate agency. He is currently the Executive Chairman of Nu Way Housing Developments, which is a company that specializes in housing development. He also serves as a director in a range of companies involved in housing development, home loans, civil engineering, fencing and finance. Mr Nyembe is past president of NABCAT, council member of NAFCOC, past chairman of the Estate Agency Affairs Board. He also serves as a director on the board of the Housing Consumer Protection Trust and Sekunjalo Investments Trust. Mr Ian Grant Cruickshank Partner in Cruickshank and Associates Mr Cruickshank is a qualified architect who has practiced as an architect, arbitrator, mediator, contract consultant, and expert witness. He is currently a partner in a firm of architects. He has been the chairman of the South African Institute of Architects, South African Council of Architects, and Interdisciplinary Committees for Contract Documents. Mr Phethola Nailana Makgathe CEO of the National Homebuilders Registration Council Mr Makgathe holds a Master of Science in Industrial Relations and Personnel Management from the University of London. He also holds several certificates in Human resource and general management. Mr Makgathe is currently the Chief Executive Officer of the National Homebuilders Registration Council, which is a statutory body established by the Department of Housing to regulate the building industry. He is a current member of the UNISA Council and past acting city manager for the Tshwane Metro. Ms Magauta Mphahlele Director in the Department of Trade and Industry Ms Mphahlele holds an Honors Degree in Applied Linguistics and a Post Graduate Diploma in Education. She is a former lecturer at the University of the Witwatersrand. She is currently a Director in the Consumer and Corporate Regulation Division responsible for the management of regulatory agencies like the Competition Commission, Competition Tribunal, National Gambling Board, National Lotteries Board, Estate Agency Affairs Board, Micro Finance Regulatory Council and the Companies and Intellectual Property Registration Office. She is also a council member of the National Homebuilders Registration Council and a trustee of its pension fund.
